How to extends the life of your TV

Like any other appliance, a television has a useful life that, even if it is perfectly cared for, will one day come to an end. Actually, it is not possible to give an exact figure because it depends on many factors, such as the brand, the quality of the components, the type of screen (LCD, TFT, PLASMA, LED, CRT, etc.), the hours of operation, the care and maintenance , etc.

The modern appliances television with plasma screens, LCD, LED, OLED, well known brands have a very low rate of failures , but even so, after a few years of use its lifespan decreases and begins a progressive deterioration, the more worrying the greater the investment involved in its acquisition.

What is the lifespan of a television?

The life of televisions has been increasing as new technologies have been developed. Thus, OLED technology has already surpassed the most modern LEDs with its capacity to exceed one hundred thousand hours of operation , which is equivalent to 30 years at a rate of ten hours a day with the television on.

It may be that the panel lasts that long, but another thing is the other components of the television, which have a much shorter life programmed. With what, in short, the useful life of OLED televisions is as uncertain as that of any other.

How to extend the life of a TV

Lifespan of a television

One of the variables that influence its longevity - apart from brands, quality, systems, etc. - is the maintenance of the appliance. Undoubtedly, a television that receives minimal care will last longer than a similar one that receives constant abuse. This, which does depend on us, is what we are going to examine next:

Disconnect the television completely

Disconnecting the device completely - not only from the remote control - when it is not in use, helps to save hours of operation to the power supply, and also protects it from power surges.

For this function it would be useful to install devices called voltage regulators that take care of the electrical circuit, protecting it from variations that can irreparably damage it. These devices allow a clean power cut when there is a sudden rise or fall in electrical voltage.

Hibernation mode wears out the device, it is best to turn it off and unplug it.

Do not use the TV to listen to music

To avoid further wear and tear on the TV, it should not be used to listen to music. For this function there are other cheaper and less expensive reproductive devices .

Turn it off when not watching

When you are not watching television, it is better to turn off the device. Leaving it on for endless hours causes overheating and a shortened life of the screen.

Assign it a dedicated outlet

For a better performance of the television, it is better to connect it to a power outlet by itself, the power strips tend to affect the quality of reception.

Choose your location well

The place where the television will be is essential. It should not be placed in front of a window, exposed to sunlight, because it will heat up and the components may be damaged. A direct sunlight for a long time on an LED screen can cause stains.

Nor should the appliance be placed in places with high temperatures , or near stoves, radiators, fireplaces, etc.

Also, be very careful with moisture and liquids.

If possible, the best place to place a flat screen is on the wall, because it will be protected from physical shocks and pressure, something to which they are very sensitive. Pressing an LCD screen can cause liquid to drift and damage the inner panel.

Clean it properly

Cleaning the appliance should be done often so that it does not collect dust or stains. Chemical should not be used because they can damage the materials. A dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient .

The screen is perhaps one of the most delicate parts. It should be cleaned periodically so that dust or stains do not accumulate. Do not use water. Simply wipe with a slightly damp cloth or specific wipes for cleaning computer screens.
