Netflix launches two new functions for its Android app: this is how 'Fast Laughs' and 'Play Something' work

After presenting its first free plan now available only on Android , and after finally announcing important improvements such as the reproduction of movies and series without the need to download them completely , now Netflix finally launches two of the most interesting features that were already available on iPhone and that on Android we had only been able to envy to date.

We speak of course about 'Fast Laughs' and 'Play Something' , two functions that, as the Android Central colleagues told us, have been exclusive to iPhone or Smart TVs for months, and that after promises and betas finally reach the Netflix app on Android in a stable way and for everyone.

In case you want to know what they are for, which is obvious, since it goes without saying that thes are two of the most important features of Netflix when it comes to discovering new content , on the one hand 'Fast Laughs' playing short videos of comedies or movies in a similar to TikTok, and on the other 'Play Something' serving as a "I'm going to get lucky" button, automatically playing content that we might like.

How 'Fast Laughs' and 'Play Something' Work

Well, the first of the novelties of Netflix for Android is a kind of TiKTok of contents , which will show you clips and short videos of comedy series or movies available on the platform, in something like a carousel of our own ads that will help us to know new series that may interest us.

In addition, Fast Laughs allows you to directly add series and movies to the lists , and we can even start watching them immediately if a short video surprises us or we especially like it ... Let's say it is the 'zapping' of the new decade!

Finally, it is also interesting that you know that it has a social function, since the clip can be shared on WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat and other social networks individually , so that our friends can also see them and laugh with them.

We can access this new functionality from the bottom bar , where it has a dedicated tab.

For its part, Play Something focuses more on discovering content that we may like, using AI to recommend other creations from our favorite series and movies in a random play button identical in concept to Google's "I'm going to be lucky" .

Pressing the "play something" button will allow Netflix to instantly start a series or movie recommended by the algorithm , without going through the extensive catalogs and without the infinite losses of time that this produces.

This Play Something option , available so far on Smart TVs, reaches Android but not iOS yet, automatically appearing as a floating icon in the lower right corner from row 16 in the content carousel.

Both functionalities should be available with the latest version of Netflix published on Android , already uploaded on Google Play, although according to some media it seems that Fast Laughs is spreading in a staggered way starting with the markets of the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, India, Malaysia or the Philippines, among others.
